When exposed to hydrocarbon fire conditions, CharCoat 1709 reacts to heat at approx. 175°C by swelling to many times its original thickness, forming a carbonaceous char. This insulating layer significantly slows heat transfer, keeping steel substrates below critical failure temperatures.
